Principal's Report (Video and Article)
I extend a warm welcome to our new and returning students and families to Yeronga State High School. This school year promises to be an exciting, positive, and significant year for our school, staff, and students.
Over the past few weeks, it has been a pleasure to meet so many new members of our school community and welcome our incoming Year 7 students.
This year at Yeronga, our schoolwide focus is on "Elevate". Our theme for 2025 is about building on the growth and improvement we’ve already achieved, aiming to elevate every student’s journey toward success. We encourage all students to continue striving for excellence, and we are here to support them every step of the way. Please refer to the attached snapshot of results to see how our school is growing and improving each year. We are proud of the achievements of all of our students and were to hear so many stories of accomplishment from our 2024 Year 12 cohort. We wish them continued success as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Attendance has started well this year, with an impressive 89% attendance rate. We ask that parents and caregivers continue to work with us to ensure all students maintain strong attendance, as every day at school counts. If your child is going to be late or absent, please notify the school through Compass or call the school directly.
We kicked off the year with a fantastic swimming carnival, where students demonstrated great spirit and participation. Additionally, at our school leaders' assembly, we had the privilege of presenting new school leaders and senior students with their badges. It was a proud moment, and we're excited to see how these leaders will inspire their peers throughout the year. This year, for the first time, we are excited to have junior leaders in Year 9. This is a direct reflection of our "Elevate" theme, as we aim to provide leadership opportunities to younger students, helping them grow and develop their skills earlier in their high school journey.
In August, we will celebrate Yeronga Celebrates, where we will highlight the diverse and rich culture of our school community. This event is a chance for us to come together, share our experiences, and appreciate the unique contributions of all our students, staff, and families.
This year promises to be a memorable one, and I look forward to partnering with every student, family, and staff member to make 2025 a wonderful year at Yeronga SHS.

Introductions
Welcome to 2025! We would like to welcome all students and families to Yeronga State High School. Firstly, I want to re-introduce the Junior School Team for 2025.
Year 7 Learner Agency Mentor (LAM) – Jordan Plumridge jplum49@eq.edu.au
Year 8 Learner Agency Mentor (LAM) – Ms Kate Middleton-Pol (photo) kmidd26@eq.edu.au

Our LAMs will work with students directly with your children to navigate their way through the first two years of high school. They will support your child’s social and emotional development and will provide communication on key events and dates throughout 2025. Jordan will organise and facilitate the Year 7 Camp in Term 2.
Junior School Head of Department - Brock Germain bgerm1@eq.edu.au
Brock’s role is to support your children with their curriculum and learning needs as well as assisting them with any challenges. He will also support students’ behaviour and engagement. Brock will organise major events and provide information. Brock also will support the leadership development of our students.
Mobile and other electronic device Ban
A reminder that mobile phones and other electronic devices other than the school laptop are not to be used on school grounds in 2025. This includes headphones and airpods. Students have been provided with pouches which are optional but recommended to use. Students can unlock their pouches at the school gates. Students are still free to use their phones once they have left the school campus. If parents or carers need to contact their child, please contact the school office on 3249 1400.
Year 7 Parent Welcome Evening
I look forward to meeting new parents of the Year 7 cohort at the welcome BBQ. Parents and guardians will get to meet key staff and we will finish with an information session where we will discuss Year 7 curriculum, Compass, QLearn and QParents.
The BBQ starts at 5pm. The information session will begin at 6pm and will go for approximately 1 hour.
Year 7 Laptops
All Year 7 students should have received their laptops and have completed an induction. It is very important that these devices are looked after and charged every night for use each day. I will take parents and guardians through some of the important aspects of the laptop in the information session.
Swimming carnival
It was wonderful to see the Year 7 cohort at the Swimming Carnival in Week 2. Behaviour and engagement were excellent, and the students all had a great time in the pool or participating as spectators. We love to see the house spirit on display. Well done to the Avoca Alligators who won the day in the end. Swimming Carnival photos are on our school Facebook page.
Course and assessment planners
Assessment dates will be available in Qparents from week 4. It is great opportunity to check these upcoming dates with your children as assessment begins.
Thanks and have a great week!

From Deputy Principal - Middle School
I would like to extend a warm welcome to parents and carers and look forward to meeting or reconnecting with you all across the course of the year. The partnership between school and home is most important and I welcome open and regular communication with parents and carers of all students. Please contact me on the details below if you have any enquiries.
I'm excited to work with the Middle School Team to support the engagement and learning outcomes of all students in Year 9 and 10. HOD of Middle School – Ms Holly Haswell Smith (hhasw1@eq.edu.au), Year 10 Learner Agency Mentor – Mr Darrin Wood (dwood10@eq.edu.au) and Year 9 Learner Agency Mentor - Mr David Fan (dfan0@eq.edu.au). Please don't hesitate to email Holly, Darrin or David any questions or concerns you may have.
Communications – Right to disconnect
At Yeronga State High School, we value open communication between home and school. We kindly ask that professional courtesy is observed in all email exchanges. We understand that everyone has busy lives, and both school and home administrative tasks require significant time and attention. To ensure a thoughtful response, please allow staff up to one full business day to review and reply to emails. For urgent matters, we encourage you to contact the school administration to arrange a meeting or phone call for quicker assistance. Similarly, if students are seeking feedback or support from teachers via email, we ask for your patience in allowing time for a response.
For Year 9 Students we have an exciting start to the year with Camp coming up fast in Week 6. Numbers are strictly limited and places will be offered based on when permission forms and payment is made. Mr Fan, our Year 9 Learner Agency Mentor has been communicating with Parents and Carers informed about procedures with at last count, 16 place left for this amazing experience. I look forwards to spending some time with the students at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre from Tuesday to Friday in Week 6. Please email me or David if you have any questions regarding camp.
For Year 10 Students a key focus of our Learner Agency Program will be working on preparing for Senior Education and Training Plans for Years 11, 12 and beyond secondary school. Whilst students will work on this during Learner Agency classes each morning and Ethics and Choices classes on Tuesdays during Period 3, it is important to keep conversations active about the types of courses and jobs that may interest your child so that they have a good understanding of what subjects they need to study in Year 11 and 12 in 2026/27.
One big change to the 2025 timetable is that many Year 10 students will have a blank on their timetable on Wednesday Period 4. This time may be used if students are required to complete courses to support their academic goals if they are not maintaining their work in all subjects. Students with blank Period 4 on Wednesday on their timetable will be able to leave school at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Looking forward to an exciting and successful 2025.

Welcome back to the new school year. I hope you all had a wonderful summer break and had a wonderful start to the new year.
To those celebrating Lunar New Year and Chinese New Year, I wish you a joyful and prosperous year ahead. The Year of the Snake represents good luck, rebirth, and regality, which we hope will bring positive energy to our school community.
Year 12 Students – Your Final Year
To our Year 12 students, this is the final stretch of your school journey. Time will fly by, so it’s essential to stay focused and keep your eyes on the horizon. Remember, every day counts, and your presence and engagement in your learning are crucial.
Year 11 Students – The Final Phase of Senior School
As Year 11 students begin their final phase of senior school, now is the time to build the foundations for success. Stay motivated, stay organized, and continue to prioritise your studies. This phase is an important preparation for Year 12 and beyond.
Reflecting on 2024
I am proud to share that 100% of our 2024 cohort graduated with their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Additionally, 90.24% of students completed one or more VET certificates, with 23 students achieving their Diploma of Business. Those who completed their Diploma of Business earlier in the year received early offers through their QTAC applications.
A total of 27 students received an ATAR ranging from 99.95 to 65.50. We are also proud to announce that 44.82% of our graduates received their first preference through QTAC. Our students have chosen a variety of pathways post-graduation, including full-time apprenticeships, university, TAFE, private RTOs, work, and even gap years to travel. We wish all our graduates the very best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Link and Launch
Our 2024 graduates (Year 13 students) now have access to the Link and Launch officer, Serena Camilleri, based at Yeronga State High School. Serena has been assisting students with their transition into post-schooling, and we encourage any Year 13 students needing support to contact her for appointments. She can help with university applications, job searches, and other post-school transitions.
Student Success
For Year 11 and 12 students, it is critical to make school your top priority. Achieving your QCE or ATAR requires dedication and a consistent effort in your studies. Students who excel academically often choose subjects they are passionate about, put in extra effort, and seek feedback from their teachers. If you're struggling, don't hesitate to ask for help—reach out to your teachers and support staff for assistance.
Senior Statement of Expectation
All Year 11 and 12 students, along with their parents or carers, would have received a Senior Statement of Expectation letter at the end of last year. This letter outlines the expectations for senior school events, which are by ‘invitation only’ from the Principal. Events include participation in extracurricular activities, wearing senior jerseys in Year 12, and attending the Year 12 formal and graduation.
To be eligible for these invitations, students must demonstrate a mature, self-motivated approach to their studies, uphold school values, and adhere to the Senior Statement of Educational Agreement. This includes:
- 95% or higher attendance (unless documented by a satisfactory explanation or medical certificate).
- Wearing the correct uniform with pride at all times.
- Timely completion of homework, assignments, and assessments, as per the school’s assessment policy.
- Preparedness with the necessary equipment, including a charged laptop.
- A diligent approach to studies, using available support services when needed, and maintaining effective study habits.
Students who are not meeting these expectations will need to address any areas of concern, including tardiness or detention, and commit to improving. The school will provide support and guidance where necessary.
Regular attendance is essential for successful completion of the Year 11 and 12 course of study and for earning credit on the Year 12 QCAA Senior Statement. Parents must seek permission from the Principal for any long-term absences due to non-medical reasons, such as holidays (Note: AARA will not be granted for assessments missed due to holidays). Absences supported by a medical certificate will always be accepted.
Please ensure the Senior Statement of Expectation is signed by both the student and parent/carer and returned to the Senior Schooling office. If you have not received the letter, please contact Ms. Roblin (Head of Senior Secondary) for a copy.
Attendance
Consistent school attendance is critical for academic and social success. If your child is absent, please notify the school as soon as possible, and provide a medical certificate when applicable. Frequent absences can negatively affect academic performance and social development. In cases of repeated absenteeism, students may face enrolment cancellation due to non-attendance.
All absences should be accompanied by appropriate documentation, such as a medical certificate, for verification.
Year 11 and 12 Assessment Planner and Applying for Access Arrangement and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA)
The Year 11 and 12 Assessment Planner will soon be available on the school website. Students and parents are encouraged to review it regularly to stay on top of deadlines and assignments.
Students must submit assignments on time unless they have applied for an extension. To apply for an extension or other accommodations, students must complete an AARA (Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments) application form, which can be downloaded from the QCAA website. Please submit the completed form, along with the necessary signatures and supporting documentation, to Ms. Truong or Ms. Taschke (Guidance Officer). For medical-related extensions, a doctor’s certificate must be submitted alongside the AARA application.
International Student Program
Our International Student Program continues to grow, with 55 international students enrolled at Yeronga this year. These students come from a diverse range of countries, including China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cameroon, Iran, Brazil, Sweden, and Japan. We are proud to welcome them into our school community.
I look forward to work with the 2025 Year 11 and 12 cohort. Wishing you all a wonderful new year ahead.

On behalf of the Yeronga State High School P&C, welcome to 2025! I hope everyone- parents, carers and students- has settled in to the year well so far. Other than regular meetings, P&C activities for 2024 included a couple of informal social get-togethers, organization of a free BBQ at the school Open Day, a working bee and a large investment of funds into the School’s Pay it Forward fund to help families facing financial challenges meet the costs of uniforms, the resources scheme and excursions, among other things.
For 2025 we’d love to see plenty more engagement from parents and carers in the School community, and there are a few things to draw your attention to that might help!
First, we’ll have an informal get-together to allow us to re-connect with or meet fellow parents and carers- that will be at the Moorooka Clubhouse (Koala Rd Moorooka) from 3pm on Sunday 23February. We’ll either be inside or outside depending on conditions (we’ll have signs), hope to see you all there. Kids welcome.
Second, there is a wonderful fundraising event- a Trivia event, ‘Yerongapalooza!’- planned for Saturday 15 March. Please do save the date! Doors will open at the Yeronga SHS School Hall at 6.30pm, with first trivia question at 7pm. Tickets will be $25 each, with all money raised going towards an outdoor table and shading outside P block. Links for tickets and more details to follow, if you’d like to help (volunteers always welcome!) you can sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/EEJF3.
To kick start our fundraising efforts, we were successful in receiving the Indooroopilly RACQ branch Local Giving grant to the tune of $500! Thanks to RACQ for their generous support.
Finally, our first meeting of 2025 will be happening on Monday 10 March, from 6.30pm in the Professional Lounge at Yeronga SHS (above reception). All welcome! Find out what the P&C is up to and how you can contribute to the wonderful Yeronga SHS community this year. We’ll have membership forms there for new and returning members, please do get in touch with us via pandcyshs@gmail.com if you’d like a Teams link to allow you to join us online.
That’s it from me, hope to see you at one or ideally all three of these events in 2025!
Best,
Matt McDonald, President, Yeronga SHS P&C

Yeronga SHS Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part in the Yeronga SHS swimming carnival! It was a day filled with impressive performances and fantastic House spirit.
After an action-packed day of racing, Avoca claimed the top spot, followed by Kadumba in second and Shottery in third. The energy and participation from both students and staff created a fantastic atmosphere, making it a fun day for all.

Hello and welcome to our first 2025 Newsletter.
Already it's been a massive start to the year and I find myself on a Wednesday asking, "How is it ONLY Wednesday?"
Coming up for our Year 7 and 9s will be NAPLAN. Our window at YSHS will be from March 12 to 17. Both cohorts will do a device readiness test during one Learner Agency lesson in the weeks leading into NAPLAN. NAPLAN captures data about student's knowledge of five areas - Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation, Writing, Reading and Numeracy - and places them in one of four levels for their age group.
Just a reminder, particularly for our new families, laptops must be charged each night, in order to last the school day.
Please ensure you have downloaded the Compass app. The app allows you to monitor your student's attendance in each class (Red = Absent, Yellow = Late, Green = Present). Email: tech@yerongashs.eq.edu.au for support around Compass, if you're have any issues.
Please also ensure you have QParent access. This is an online way to grant permission, rather than sign notes that were left in the bottom for their bag for a fortnight, or not handed into the office (and there are only 10 spots available).
I look forward to meeting many of the Year 7 Parents at our welcome BBQ and Information Night in a couple of weeks.

Often we have families asking about the "Student Hub." Located in the bottom of Admin (D Block), Student Hub is a go-to place for students at school.
Jeanette and Sufia are the friendly faces in the Hub, they oversee a variety of functions:
1) Late Arrivals. Students who are late MUST go to the Hub and sign in late.
2) Uniform Corrections. Students who do not have the correct uniform will be directed to the Hub to correct their uniform. Items are washed after use.
3) Sick Bay. Students must present to sick bay and the staff will contact home. Students are not to text/email/call parents/carers.
4) Student Absence Line. When you call/email/text your student's absence, the staff in the Hub record these absences.
5) Navigator. The staff at the Hub are aware of room changes and will update your student if they missed the information.
6) Lost Property. Items will be organised for collection and displayed outside the Hub.
7) Timetable MIA. The Hub staff can reprint a timetable for students.
There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes at the Hub, including rolls for excursions/camps, getting the Immunisation Forms in, handing out the ID cards if a student misses getting them in their Learner Agency class.... But this is a snapshot of the work they do each day.

Women’s Summit: Elevating the Future in 2025
On Wednesday 5 February, we had a successful Summit to gather student voice. Our guest speaker, Kathomi Gatwiri spoke to the students about their experience in in community. What it means to be a student in Brisbane and how our cultural and religious layers all intersect to create our identities. The students then had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of speakers who were able to share their experiences with balancing all the different aspects of their lives. Finally students worked on what they want to learn more about this year in the Wednesday afternoon meetings. This year, we build upon the momentum gained from the summit, translating student ideas into actionable initiatives that will strengthen our community and empower individuals.
Summit Reflections: A Launchpad for Change
The summit provided a space for students to take ownership of the Hub’s direction, voicing their perspectives and co-designing initiatives that align with their needs. Through thoughtful discussion and collaboration, students identified key areas for growth and transformation, setting a dynamic course for the year ahead.
2025: Actions & Next Steps
Following the insights gained at the summit, we have established a set of key actions to guide our journey forward. These initiatives focus on fostering leadership, strengthening peer networks, and amplifying student voices in meaningful ways.
Some keys actions/ideas from the students:
- Debates and podcasts on a range of topics
- Learning to be assertive
- Getting involved in community and volunteering
- Mental health education
A Year of Growth & Impact
The theme Elevate continues to inspire us in 2025, reinforcing our commitment to lifting one another and ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and empowered. We invite all students to engage, contribute, and be part of shaping a future where inclusivity, collaboration, and leadership thrive.
We look forward to another transformative year with the Women’s Hub and can’t wait to see the impact of the collective efforts of our amazing students.

I’m really excited to be back at Yeronga this year as the EAL/D Coach. I started my career at YSHS as a pre-service teacher in 2006 and love the positive, supportive community here. We have such an incredibly diverse population at our school, with speakers of over 60 different languages. A day at Yeronga SHS is like travelling the world.
My job is to support these English language learners (and their teachers) as they learn English, while learning about the English language, while learning all of their subject topics through English, which is no mean feat. Some of our students speak 3, 4 or 5 different languages. Imagine how fast your brain must work to manage all that in Senior Geography!
So far, I’ve been working with staff to help them understand their learners’ language needs, and will have the opportunity to drop in to classes later this week. Next we’ll be focusing on explicit teaching of vocabulary and grammar for learning and assessment. I’m sure we’ll have a great year focusing on language for learning!

Throwback to Year 11/12 Overnight Biology Fieldwork Excursion - North Stradbroke Island in 2024
On 31 October and 1 November 2024, senior biology students ventured by bus and ferry to North Stradbroke Island to complete an array of field tasks as part of the Unit 3 Ecology program of study.
Over the extremely busy two days, environmental analysis took place in the mangrove ecosystem of Myora Springs, as well as sand dune succession studies on the north east shores of Main Beach at Point Lookout. Data was collected for further examination when determining species diversity of a group of organisms based on a given index such as Simpsons’. Students learned how to use a wide variety of field equipment ranging from anemometers and hygrometers to pH kits and iPad based data loggers. The process of stratified sampling was used to classify the biotic and abiotic field statistics at all sites visited. All students worked collaboratively to complete the necessary tasks, including the strategic counting of hundreds of organisms covering the landscape assessed!
Exhaustion definitely set in on the first day after 2 hours in the muddy mangroves and 3 hours in the hot sand dunes, however the day was not done. Upon arrival at the Surf Life Saving club, and after a well-earned dinner, book work and planning then took place in preparation for Day 2. This included 5 more hours in the field, trekking over dunes up to and through the Casuarina forests. Students not only analysed small creatures (such as crustaceans) and plant life during this time but also were able to see many larger iconic Australian species enjoying natures backyard, such as kangaroos, sea turtles, dolphin and the last of the migrating Humpback whales while on the beautiful North Gorge walk.
Although non-stop busy days were had, students’ enthusiasm made the excursion both enjoyable and interesting for all. This form of fieldwork is invaluable in instilling students with a new appreciation for the world we live in. Being out in the field is an irreplaceable experience in comparison to the classroom. The importance of the work that took place is just a small insight into what many Biologists are doing each and every day. It allowed us to assess the complex biodiverse world we are a part of and hope to maintain for further generations to enjoy!

How To Prepare For Job Interviews
Job interviews can be nerve-wracking, with many people experiencing sweaty palms just thinking about them. The fear of being asked, "What are your weaknesses?" or accidentally slipping up in a response is common.
Preparation is key to interview success. Here’s how to stand out.
Prepare to Discuss Yourself
A resume is just an introduction, so candidates should be ready to elaborate on work experience, education, and interests. This is the time to show personality and align skills with the role while maintaining professionalism.
Keep answers concise to avoid rambling, which is common when nervous.
Anticipate Common Interview Questions
- Why do you want to work for us?
Instead of saying, "I love ice cream," explain how your skills align with the company’s mission and values. - Why are you leaving your previous job?
Focus on growth, career alignment, or better work-life balance. Always speak positively about past employers. - What are your strengths?
Highlight 3-4 strengths that benefit the workplace, such as problem-solving or eagerness to learn. - What are your weaknesses?
Avoid clichés. Mention a genuine weakness and describe how you're actively working to improve it. - Can you describe a time when you resolved a conflict?
Have an example ready of how you navigated a challenging situation and found a resolution.
Research the Company
Before any interview, researching the company’s history, values, and future goals is essential. Not doing so can lead to awkward situations, like being caught off guard by questions about the company’s products or services.
Have Questions Ready for Them
At the end of the interview, candidates will often be asked, "Do you have any questions for us?" Asking thoughtful questions, like "What do you enjoy most about working here?" demonstrates interest and initiative.
With these tips, candidates can be well-prepared to impress interviewers and secure their next opportunity.
Link and Launch is a Department of Education initiative to support young people who have graduated year 12 in the last 2 years into work, training or study. If you are or know a young person who would like support, please get in touch for an initial chat.

School Based Youth Health Nurse

School Based Youth Health Nurses work in secondary schools across Queensland, with their focus being on preventative healthcare, early detection and brief intervention for all students in Year 7 to 12.
Confidential Student Appointments
Students can make an appointment with the SBYH Nurse in person, by emailing nurse.yeronga@health.qld.gov.au or dropping into F Block, to discuss any questions they may have about their health and wellbeing. These appointment are confidential, and the nurse will not share any information without the student's consent, unless there is a significant risk to the student's health or safety.
In most cases, the SBYH Nurse encourages students to talk to their parents or carers about their health and wellbeing issues and often the nurse supports students to do this.
Individual health consultations may include:
- Early detection of actual or potential health problems.
- Providing information, options or referrals to relevant health services to provide them with further assessment, treatment and/or support.
- Provide brief interventions and/or referrals to other services as appropriate.
Some of the main issues for which students have accessed SBYH Nurses are mental health, including social and emotional wellbeing, relationships, family issues, stress, eating issues, sexual and reproductive health, drug use (including tobacco and alcohol) and growth and development.
Please encourage the young person in your care to contact the nurse if they require any information or support for any health-related issues. The SBYH Nurse can also take referrals from teachers and parents at nurse.yeronga@health.qld.edu.au. Esther is available at Yeronga SHS on Tuesdays.

Just like every other school, YSHS finds itself with Lost Property every day.
Here's a Handy To-Do-List
1. Ensure all clothing items are labelled with a LAUNDRY marker.
2. Use stickers or a label maker for water bottles and other items that are brought to school.
3. Have a key ring or identifying object for their school bag. This will often eliminate the grabbing of the wrong bag.
4. Lost items are handed to the Student Hub, but it's the student's responsibility to collect the item.
5. At the end of term, uniform items unlabelled and not collected are donated to the Uniform Shop for second hand sales.

Knowing how to best support our teenagers can be very challenging at times, and requires the use of different parenting skills throughout the years. One of the most supportive ways we can engage with our students at any age is with active listening. The power of listening is that it meets a fundamental human need to be heard and where other’s thoughts, ideas, and opinions are respected. Listening also serves to help strengthen the relationship with your teenager, whilst also supporting their development of communication and negotiation skills.
Active listening shifts our parenting towards more of a coaching role which is supportive and encouraging, rather than just looking for those teachable moments. As adolescents grow towards adulthood, they increasingly need opportunity to develop independence and autonomy, making their own decisions where possible. However, there are times when it is appropriate as their informed adult to step in and intervene when necessary.
I encourage parents with the new school year to think about shifting your parenting style a little, and try engaging with your teenagers with active listening, holding back on offering too much advice and judgement. Happy listening!
Brekky Club
Brekky Club operates three mornings each week before school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The program is intended to support students to better engage in learning without the struggle as a result of limited or poor breakfast choices. There are many students who access this program out of necessity, but our policy is that we feed the crowd to target the few. Thank you to the YMCA School’s Breakfast Program for supply the food, and the staff and volunteers who help me each week.
Keep in Touch
I’m available to be an active listener and encourager on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Please feel free to contact me through the school office or email jennifer.bennett@suchaplaincy.org.au

School Zone Parking - A message from Brisbane City Council
Parking in accordance with all road rules and signage is important to keep our children and other road users safe. Unfortunately, Brisbane City Council has received an increase in the number of reports of illegal parking around our school. As a result, our school has been added to Council’s Safer Schools Program this term.
What does this mean?
Brisbane City Council’s Parking Compliance Officers will be actively patrolling the streets surrounding our school over the coming term to encourage safer parking behaviours. These patrols will be conducted on foot and in highly visible Community Safety and Regulation vehicles that can identify alleged offences using Automatic Number Plate Recognition and GPS software. Please be kind – they have a job to do.
What are the common parking signs around schools?
A guide to common parking signs around school zones can be found on Council’s website by searching the term ‘School Parking’.
Brisbane City Council | 2025 back-to-school district service changes
In 2025, Brisbane will experience the largest uplift to our bus network in over a decade.
The new network, called Brisbane’s New Bus Network and complemented by Brisbane Metro, will improve reliability and increase capacity to get you where you need to go, at the times you want to travel. These changes will be made in stages to support you and your students in navigating the new network.
On 28 January, we will be rolling out Brisbane Metro on the M2 route (previously known as Route 66) from UQ Lakes to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. M2 services will not stop at Dutton Park Place. Customers wishing to travel to Dutton Park Place will need to transfer to a different service.
This stage will also implement changes to some urban and district services, prioritising student connection to schools and universities in time for the new year. There are currently no planned changes to district school services for your school.
Your staff and students can plan their journeys by visiting Translink’s journey planner and school service finder, calling 13 12 30 or downloading the Translink app.
For more information on Brisbane Metro, Brisbane’s New Bus Network and the staged implementation plan visit Council’s website.
