Principal's Report (Video and Article)
I extend a warm welcome to our new and returning students and families to Yeronga State High School. This school year promises to be an exciting, positive, and significant year for our school, staff, and students.
Over the past few weeks, it has been a pleasure to meet so many new members of our school community and welcome our incoming Year 7 students.
This year at Yeronga, our schoolwide focus is on "Elevate". Our theme for 2025 is about building on the growth and improvement we’ve already achieved, aiming to elevate every student’s journey toward success. We encourage all students to continue striving for excellence, and we are here to support them every step of the way. Please refer to the attached snapshot of results to see how our school is growing and improving each year. We are proud of the achievements of all of our students and were to hear so many stories of accomplishment from our 2024 Year 12 cohort. We wish them continued success as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Attendance has started well this year, with an impressive 89% attendance rate. We ask that parents and caregivers continue to work with us to ensure all students maintain strong attendance, as every day at school counts. If your child is going to be late or absent, please notify the school through Compass or call the school directly.
We kicked off the year with a fantastic swimming carnival, where students demonstrated great spirit and participation. Additionally, at our school leaders' assembly, we had the privilege of presenting new school leaders and senior students with their badges. It was a proud moment, and we're excited to see how these leaders will inspire their peers throughout the year. This year, for the first time, we are excited to have junior leaders in Year 9. This is a direct reflection of our "Elevate" theme, as we aim to provide leadership opportunities to younger students, helping them grow and develop their skills earlier in their high school journey.
In August, we will celebrate Yeronga Celebrates, where we will highlight the diverse and rich culture of our school community. This event is a chance for us to come together, share our experiences, and appreciate the unique contributions of all our students, staff, and families.
This year promises to be a memorable one, and I look forward to partnering with every student, family, and staff member to make 2025 a wonderful year at Yeronga SHS.
