Introductions

Welcome to 2025!  We would like to welcome all students and families to Yeronga State High School.  Firstly, I want to re-introduce the Junior School Team for 2025.

Year 7 Learner Agency Mentor (LAM) – Jordan Plumridge jplum49@eq.edu.au

Year 8 Learner Agency Mentor (LAM) – Ms Kate Middleton-Pol (photo) kmidd26@eq.edu.au

Our LAMs will work with students directly with your children to navigate their way through the first two years of high school.  They will support your child’s social and emotional development and will provide communication on key events and dates throughout 2025.  Jordan will organise and facilitate the Year 7 Camp in Term 2.

Junior School Head of Department - Brock Germain bgerm1@eq.edu.au

Brock’s role is to support your children with their curriculum and learning needs as well as assisting them with any challenges.  He will also support students’ behaviour and engagement.  Brock will organise major events and provide information.  Brock also will support the leadership development of our students.

Mobile and other electronic device Ban

A reminder that mobile phones and other electronic devices other than the school laptop are not to be used on school grounds in 2025.  This includes headphones and airpods.  Students have been provided with pouches which are optional but recommended to use.  Students can unlock their pouches at the school gates.  Students are still free to use their phones once they have left the school campus.  If parents or carers need to contact their child, please contact the school office on 3249 1400.

Year 7 Parent Welcome Evening

I look forward to meeting new parents of the Year 7 cohort at the welcome BBQ.  Parents and guardians will get to meet key staff and we will finish with an information session where we will discuss Year 7 curriculum, Compass, QLearn and QParents.

The BBQ starts at 5pm. The information session will begin at 6pm and will go for approximately 1 hour.

Year 7 Laptops

All Year 7 students should have received their laptops and have completed an induction.  It is very important that these devices are looked after and charged every night for use each day.  I will take parents and guardians through some of the important aspects of the laptop in the information session.

Swimming carnival

It was wonderful to see the Year 7 cohort at the Swimming Carnival in Week 2.  Behaviour and engagement were excellent, and the students all had a great time in the pool or participating as spectators.  We love to see the house spirit on display.  Well done to the Avoca Alligators who won the day in the end. Swimming Carnival photos are on our school Facebook page.

Course and assessment planners

Assessment dates will be available in Qparents from week 4.  It is great opportunity to check these upcoming dates with your children as assessment begins.

Thanks and have a great week!
