Thank you and Happy Retirement, Mr John Aloizos

In 2010, Yeronga State High School struck gold when Mr John Aloizos joined our staff. From day one, it was clear John would be much more than an outstanding teacher, he became an integral part of our school community. Highly respected by colleagues, admired by students, and valued by families, no doubt John’s impact will be felt for many years to come.

There are far too many accolades to mention here, as John’s contributions extended far beyond the bounds of the classroom. He gave fully and generously to every aspect of school life, from capturing memories through his camera lens at athletics and swimming carnivals, to running the sound systems (and patiently indulging the endless song requests from staff). John brought warmth, positivity, energy, professionalism, and a measure of playfulness that made these events enjoyable.

He was also the official photographer for our Year 12 Formals, ensuring those milestone moments were captured in style for generations of Yeronga students. His artistic creativity and technical expertise brought a professional shine to all occasions.

John has always been a passionate advocate for the Arts, particularly Drama, designing and building sets and props for our high-quality school musicals and drama performances, choreographing and directing many plays, and creating lighting plans and soundscapes that elevated every production. He worked closely with local primary schools to promote both the Arts and the school, inspiring the next generation of YSHS students while strengthening our community connections. His dedication was formally recognised when he was named a finalist in the Queensland College of Teachers Teach X Awards.

Colleagues and students will fondly remember John as the creative, passionate problem-solver who was always willing to step up and make things happen. Whether it was in front of the classroom, behind the curtain, behind the camera, or up a ladder or scaffold, his steady and warm presence ensured every lesson, celebration, performance, and production was special and unforgettable. As John now steps into retirement, we know he will embrace well-deserved time with his family, will continue to enjoy travel, will relish in grandparent duties, and no doubt appreciate the simple joy of no longer responding to a bell.

So, if you see Mr Aloizos out and about, don’t be shy about saying hi, he truly found joy in the difference he made in the lives of his students and our wonderful school community. Thank you, John, for 15 years of service at Yeronga, creativity, care, and most of all, friendship. Yeronga will not be the same without you. We wish you happiness, relaxation, and plenty of adventure as you begin this exciting new chapter.
